We had-a-nice Paradise (No sacrifice)

The stripped back, irreligious, and modern understanding of what is meant by the term ‘Paradise’ is apparently this: ‘Any place or condition that fulfils all one’s desires or aspirations’. At the recent Paradise Music festival, we felt like we were all in this type of place, whilst feeling in exactly that condition. (realistically) The only possible thing that was sacrificed, that one could ever have desired over the weekend that was not on offer, was something to mung on other than a snag. This is a fucking effort considering that that is all, and more so a non-issue considering that next year (Paradise 2014!), the food vans might actually show up, like they were requested to do!
So if that non-issue issue is all that needs to be cleared up before we praise the peoples behind this wonderful event, then why am I still typing irrelevant sh.. Look Paradise was a paradise, all the blogs that have been clever enough to suggest this are heaps smart and correct and wise, and right-wise, which is a combo of being right and wise all at once. Tom Hutchins, over at the lordish We Talk, You Die, has done the fully hektikest job of right-wisely wrapping up the festivities, and the overall spirit of the weekend. Check out this article (one of many quality pieces Paradise-related): FEATURE: THINGS WE LEARNT AT PARADISE MUSIC FESTIVAL 2013 .
Ok so back to the specific Paradise-people praising. That bro in the picture up there, for those that are unlucky enough to be unaware, is Paradise founder, Andre Hillas. The hardest chootzing bloke in the community. He and his bloody grouse bunch of mates, the Paradise crew, have done such a kind thing in making this idea of a paradisiacal festival, into a paradisiacal reality. Yes they are benefiting themselves, professionally, and by getting mad props and what-not, but surely the biggest inspiration for this endeavour has been to provide! provide! provide!. Which is straight up lovely. Our scene needs this festival. Call us hedonists or whatever, maybe we all are just that, for having such a mad time; but foreal – if no one is stopping us from this form of music/art induced elation, then why wouldn’t we partake? We are lucky that’s what we are. And the Paradise crew are just making the most of our situation of freedom, and very good, refined taste. Speaking of taste. Holy Fuck Hole. The lineup was overwhelmingly well curated, it hit all the regions of the tongue, offering diverse sensations. (If you didn’t click on the We Talk, You Die link, do it now – good rundown of choice acts)

Jesus ‘Mick Molloy’ Christ. What else is there to say.. Come next year. It’s already the most anticipated event of next year for us. Where else do you get to bliss the fuck out in the most serene landscape, under the untainted southern sky, and then strut down and into the infamous Clubland {the (mostly outdoor) festival’s answer to C Grade} to neck the shit out of a Vic tinnie? That was given to you by the musical act?
Fucken’ nowhere mate.

‘Electronic P(/M*)unks’ migrate West!

In his notable.. nah wait – seminal article ‘Electronic Punks: A Glimpse at Melbourne’s Most Dynamic Music Scene’, Everguide Columnist, Jake Cleland, takes a geez at Melbourne’s ‘Bedroom producers, electronic musicians, whatever you want to call them’ and their related scene/community. Cleland splits the veil right on the thread, emphasizing the warm and lovely experience of being amongst the actual happenings associated with this scene – and on the other side – he highlights the more recent phenomena of the virtual community – the place where, for a lot of these artists, the seeds of collaboration and networking are planted – on the net.
‘..it (the community) could be the first of its kind to transcend physical space. In a sense, it’s disingenuous to call this Melbourne’s anything, because the internet is really where much of it came together. Marcus Whale and Travis Cook, for example, formed Collarbones long before they’d physically met.’
Cleland also flips the quail right on it’s nest, when defending the creators in the scene against potential haters of the scene:
‘This bunch (creators) may take more than a few accusatory labels like “hipster” from the cynical, like those who categorise Brothers Hand Mirror as “hipster-hop” with a tone of condescension, but when you see that it’s just a very accepting group of stylish kids making serious art, that cynicism becomes embarrassing.’
Us kints (RRKIN), have just about all moved to Melbourne’s inner West recently, and we endeavour to help proliferate the knowledge that Melbourne’s West is so fertile (in a communitarianistical sense) that it is totally susceptible to becoming a unique limb growing from the awe-some entity that is, in Cleland’s words, our ‘nascent scene’.
SO..
> In collaboration with our other West-dwelling-kinz, Youth In Revolt Magazine, and in the spirit of purposeful propulsion, we are putting on a FREE event in that grouse suburb of FOOTSCRAY!

The swarv little video poster below was created by our freekey vidualiser b0yd0g in order to demonstrate how easy it is for you to get from FOOTSCRAY STATION to our chosen venue – THE REVERENCE HOTEL (‘Footscray’s best live music venue’). The walk takes about 5 minutes.. and to get to Footscray station from the city is only 2 to 3 stops (south Kensington station usually gets less trainage than even East Richmond station!)
We hope to see many heads at this event, it will unfold over 7 hours, with 7 live music acts and several artists + stallholders setting up from 6pm! The Rev has delicious and affordable food too, so get down early and get your mung on!
Yours skitzily,
RaRaKIN Collective :)
